Her career included being a performer artist, designer and singer who broke obstacles in the field. She was both traditional and modern a Mexican-American star who bound together both worlds in a singular way--and delivered excellent Tejano music to a mainstream public. It was her sudden death that shattered the rising star's image. That's what happens to a lot of stars who pass away too early. To stop her achievements from becoming forgotten her many admirers over the last few time have been inspired to achieve more. Selena's shooting death sparked an emotional response within the Latino culture that can be similar in a way to Elvis Presley, and John Lennon. Selena was a wildly well-known Latino singer across North America. Her music transcended boundaries and brought joy to both young people and older adults. Selena was an asexual, flamboyant performer on stage that was frequently referred to by the Latina Madonna. Off-stage Selena was an outstanding role model, as she was active in anti-drug and AIDS campaigns.
